STEM Center Shymkent

 On December 2, 2021, the grand opening of the STEM center was held at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. This event was timed to coincide with the STEM Day, organized as part of the “Integrated Approach to STEM Teacher Training” project (#598367-EPP-1-2018-1-SE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) of the ERASMUS+ KA2 program.
The opening ceremony was attended by the leadership of the university, teachers of the department "Physics", "Informatics", schoolchildren, students and master students.
The equipment for the STEM center was purchased with funding from the Integrated Approach to STEM Teacher Training project of the Erasmus+ program.
Iskakova Aigul Toleutayevna, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, cut the red ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the center.
- STEM approach is one of the global trends in modern education, the idea of which contributes to the goal of narrowing the gap between education and the socio-economic sphere. High-tech companies need specialists with engineering thinking, management and flexible skills. The STEM approach, which integrates the natural sciences and engineering disciplines into a single system, helps to train such specialists, said Aigul Iskakova, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, at the opening. She also expressed confidence that the open STEM center will make an invaluable contribution to the development of STEM education in Kazakhstan and to ensure the sustainability of the results of our project!
In the classroom, equipped with the necessary equipment for young researchers, project coordinator Gaukhar Omashova said that in the STEM center, students will learn to write programs, create websites and applications, design robots using knowledge of the laws of physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, and master new technologies. Trainers trained under the project will conduct refresher courses for teachers.
