STEM day in Shymkent. October 2020

STEM-day was hosted at M. Auezov SKU on October 30, 2020, as a part of the "Integrated Approach to STEM Teacher Training" project (#598367-EPP-1-2018-1-SE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) within the ERASMUS+ KA2 program. The event was organized in an online format and brought together university teachers, students, schoolchildren, and school teachers, with over 200 attendees.

 

Iskakova A., the Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, delivered the opening speech. The event featured several prominent speakers who shared their insights and knowledge on various STEM-related topics. Gaukhar Omashova, the local coordinator of the project, discussed the relevance of STEM education in schools.

 

Furthermore, Zhuzbaev A.K., a teacher from the specialized boarding school No. 4 of Saryagash, and his students Amangeldi A. and Sagi K., presented their project "SMART School," which utilized Arduino devices. Turanov A., a teacher from the intellectual school in the physical and mathematical direction of Shymkent, and his student Saduakhasov A. demonstrated their developments on the topic of "Simplifying the work and increasing the productivity of the greenhouse through research and implementation of Arduino."

 

Olzhas Kurakbai, a master's student at M. Auezov SKU, presented his portfolio on Robotics and introduced the participants to the principles of Robosport. Finally, Lyazzat Zhaidakbayeva, the head of the Department of "Informatics" at M. Auezov SKU, gave a presentation on the topic "Geometry in Nature."

 

After each presentation, the participants actively engaged in discussions and asked questions with great interest. The STEM-day event proved to be a valuable learning experience for everyone involved, further emphasizing the importance of STEM education and research.
