Joint STEM day in Shymkent. December 2022

On December 8, 2022, a Joint STEM Day was held by partner universities: M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, L.Gumilyov Eurasian University and S. Amanzholova East Kazakhstan University. The organizer of this event was M. Auezov South-Kazakhstan University. The work of the Joint STEM Day was opened with a welcoming speech by the project coordinators of each university: Gaukhar Omashova, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of "Physics" of M.Auezov South-Kazakhstan University, Meruert Serik, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the Department of "Informatics", Irina Rovnyakova, First Vice-Rector of S.Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University. 36 persons (8 person online) took part in this event.

 

During the Joint STEM Day, students presented their mini-projects using STEM technologies, carried out under the guidance of leading teachers from partner universities and schools. Aidarali Magzhan noted in his speech that in order to win in combat competitions in robotics, it is necessary to correctly assemble the sumo ev3 robot, then he presented the method of assembling robots for sumo competitions using the LEGO EV3 program. Abdulla Beibit, a student of EP-20-15k group, showed the ability of robots to determine the distance. Karlygash Agibaeva, a 2nd year master student, spoke about the possibilities of teaching school students the beginnings of programming based on visual environments, in particular the App Inventor mobile application development environment, using gamification elements.

 

Amina Nyshan, a student of EP-19-17k group, spoke about the use of gamification technology in STEM education of computer science. As part of this event, Bakytzhan Kopzhasarov, a lecturer at the Department of Computer Modeling and Information Technologies of S.Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, held a master class on digitizer design.

 

Master student of the 2nd year of L.N.GumilyovEurasian National University made a presentation “Methods of organizing STEM classes using robotics. He, in his speech, noted that robots could become an important educational tool in the STEM approach. When using educational robotics, students are also involved in situations that require them to use and apply knowledge from mathematics, science, technology, and engineering.

 

At the end of the event, Gaukhar Omashova and Meruert Serik expressed their opinion on the presented works, and further proposed to organize a visual exhibition in the field of STEM, because of the students' achievements. The Joint STEM Day passed in accordance with the program, the planned work was fully implemented.
